ENZYMES AND THEIR ROLE

Below is the abridgement of Dr.Edward Howell's book «Enzyme Nutrition»(1985).

A living organism and its enzymes are inhabited by a vital principle or life energy. The enzyme complex harbours a protein carrier inhabited by a vital energy factor, which is exhaustible. Also, the capacity of a living organism to produce enzymes is limited and exhaustible.
Thought for many years as catalysts, enzymes are much more than that. Catalysts work by chemical action only, while enzymes function by both biological and chemical action. Catalysts do not contain the ' life element', which can be measured as a kind of radiation, emitted by enzymes. This can be demonstrated by biological means and other methods (the Mitogenetic Rays of Gurwitsch, Kirlion Electro-Magnetic Photography, Rothen's Enzyme Action at a Distance, Visual Micro Observation of Working Enzymes).
Enzymes contain proteins and some contain vitamins which have been synthesized by chemists, however, the ' life force' of the enzymes cannnot and has never been synthesized. So, the enzymes are protein carriers charged with vital energy (just as car battery consists of metal plates charged with electrical energy).
In 1930's there were known 80 enzymes, in 1957 – 660, in 1968 – 1300, and by today there are thousands of them identified and more to be discovered.
There are 3 classes of enzymes: metabolic enzymes, which run our bodies, digestive enzymes, which digest our food and food enzymes from raw foods, which start food digestion.
The metabolic enzymes run all our organs and tissues, they structure proteins, fats and carbohydrates into healthy bodies, keeping everything working properly. Every organ and tissue has different metabolic enzymes and every of them has a particular specialized job to do (One molecule of the enzyme called 'catalase', found in the blood, will split five million molecules of hydrogen peroxide into molecules of water and oxygen in a mere 60 seconds. Some intestinal enzymes can break up a million times their weight in sugar and fat).
Digestive enzymes have only three main jobs to do: digesting proteins(enzymes called proteases do this job), carbohydrate(amylases do this) and fats(upasas do this job).
The digestive enzymes of humans are much stronger and more concentrated in enzyme activity than any of the metabolic enzymes – more than any other combination found in nature. There is no evidence that wild animals, living on natural raw diet, have digestive enzymes even remotely approaching the strength of those of human beings. Only humans live on enzyme-free food itself. All wild creatures get their enzymes supplement in the raw food itself. Many animals( cats and dogs, cattle and sheeps, horses) have no enzymes at all in their saliva. But when dogs are fed on heat treated diet, enzymes show up in their saliva within a week!
Back in 1943,the physiological laboratory of North Western University made experiments on rats and they showed that the amount of digestive enzymes secreted by the pancreas depended on the amount of food consumed; since then it was confirmed by dozens of university laboratories throughout the world.
Food enzymes ( found only in raw living food itself) help with digestion instead of forcing the body's digestive enzymes to carry the job. When food enzymes are at work, the enzymes' potential can allot less activity to digestive enzymes and can concentrate it on metabolic enzymes to run the entire body. It'e like with bank account, which can be dangerously deficient, if not continually replenished.
The heat, used in cooking, destroys all food enzymes and forces the organism to produce more enzymes, thus enlargingn digestive organs, especially pancreas. When excessive amount of digestive enzymes is made, the enzyme potential may be unable to produce an adequate quantity of metabolic enzymes to repair body organs and fight disease.
If humans take in more exogenous (outside) enzymes, which are in raw food,, the enzymes potential will not have to waste so much of its heritage digesting food, it will act to maintain health and prevent disease.
We are careless with enzymes. They are the most precious asset we possess. In an experiment in 1944, young rats and chickens were fed raw soybeans(high in enzymes inhibitors) and huge quantities of panctreatic digestive enzymes were wasted combating the inhibitors, the pancreas enlarged to handle the extra burden and the animals sickened and failed to grow. That was since proved in dozens of scientific laboratories.
Animals, such as cattle and sheep, get along with a pancreas about a third as large as ours(figured as a percentage of the body weight) on their raw food diet. Laboratory mice fed on heat-processed, enzyme-free food, have pancreas 2 to 3 times heavier than in wild mice eating raw food, full of enzymes. When laboratory mice are put on enzyme-rich raw food, their pancreas gets only about a third as heavy as in those on enzyme-free diet.
Wastage of body enzymes can have a deadly effect on organism, as proved in the experiment at Washington University: When dogs were equipped with fistulae(tubes) to drain all pancreatic juices out of body, while they received food and water – profound deterioration sat in and all of them died. Acute human intestinal obstruction has been resulting in death within 3 to 5 days. It is a remarkable fact that preventing of bile to enter the intestines is not fatal in man or laboratory animals, because no enzymes are wasted in this instance.
Cattle and sheeps have 4 stomachs and only 1 secrets enzymes, the others allow food enzymes in food to digest itself. In humans, when raw food with its enzymes is eaten, it goes to the upper portion of the stomach ( which does not produce enzymes) and is digested there by food enzymes for 30-60 minutes. If the food is enzyme-free, nothing happens to it, it just idles there all this time, only salivary enzymes work on carbohydrates, but proteins and fats must wait until they are moved further on, and then digestive enzymes do the job instead of food enzymes.
Thus, enzymes potential is spent digesting, instead of supplying metabolic functions. Raw food does not stimulate enzyme secretion as much as cooked food, more digestion is performed by food enzymes. When food enzymes do this work, this results in normalizing and lessening the strength of excessively high digestive enzyme secretion.
So, using cooked food, we waste our enzyme potential, our exhaustible 'life force'. And consuming raw food, we prolong our life, live in full vigour and disease-free!
